Kipper Tin is a Boston-based Alternative/Indie-Rock band that plays original music loud. Their guitar-laden sound is melodic and powerful, and its uniqueness makes Kipper Tin a young but undeniable part of the Boston rock scene.
With the summer 2000 release of a four-song EP recorded by Darron Burke (Damn Personals, Sleepyhead) and a battery of live shows, Kipper Tin has built up a dedicated local following and garnered a place on the local college and commercial airwaves. Their exposure via MP3.com and their Web site (www.bostonrockproject.com/kippertin) has landed Kipper Tin on the Canadian circuit as well. Expect a full-length release in 2001.
- Sarah Borges: singer, songwriter and guitarist. I try to write songs that I like and that other people might too. I hate it when people call us chick rock or pop. I want to play guitar like a boy.
- Mike Conklin: bass. From booking bands for the Green Street Grill in Cambridge to pulling the steel snakes for Piewackit, Mike has been part of the Boston rock scene for more than half a decade. A relative newcomer to the band (Jan. 2000), he is the backbone of the rhythm section.
- Nate Darden: drums. This U.S. Army brat moved north from Chesapeake, VA to attend Berklee College of Music in 1994. With a little luck and a load of talent, Nate landed a gig with Boston favorites Fuzzy in 1997 and made his debut on their 1999 release, Hurray for Everything (Catapult). For Kipper Tin, drummer Nate drives home the dynamics of the rhythm section.
- Greg Lyon: guitar. Not afraid to shed clothing during a show, this chain-smoking vegetarian just wants to play guitar. His garage rock credentials have propelled Greg to the stages of Boston's more notorious venues, where this quiet and seemingly unassuming guitarist sneers his way through every lick.
Locally, Kipper Tin has shared bills with a number of notable bands including Cherry 2000, Star Ghost Dog, Starhustler and Mishima, as well as national acts like Madder Rose, Silkworm and Macha. Plan to hear more from them, and expect to like what you hear. |
